New mom smiling at yawning newborn baby in St. Louis

Families are more than people: they are connections.

Hi! I’m Casey, and I’m the photographer behind Casey Rae Photography! I am a family, child, and newborn photographer located in St. Louis, Missouri. I absolutely love documenting the moments of my families’ lives and I really think this is a dream job.

I’ve always been around cameras and valued photography, because my father loves taking pictures and spent a lot of time photographing my siblings and me as children. I didn’t always love having my picture taken (especially during my teen years!) but I’ve always been fascinated and intrigued by the art of lifestyle and documentary photography. When I got my first serious camera, my favorite thing was to photograph my friends in ways that captured not only what they looked like, but the feeling of who they were in that moment. And as I began to travel, I discovered the same passion for photographing the places that I love.

Photographing children became a passion for me when I became a mother. When my son was born, I found myself at home with a newborn who spent a lot of time nursing, crying, and sleeping in my arms. I was desperately in love with my baby, but I found that I needed something to do while I was holding him (he wasn’t much for sleeping anywhere but on me). When my husband suggested taking a serious photography class, I jumped right in. My son was my muse and my subject, and I found great delight in capturing his little developing personality and documenting his milestones. It became a quest for me to not only take a “good” picture of him but to create art that would freeze the moments of early motherhood so that I would never forget them. And I’m glad I did, because sleep deprivation means that I barely remember some of those days!

For the last seven years, this passion has grown into a desire to document those same moments for other families. I love it when people say “this photo just really captures who we are as a family!” or “wow, this picture of my daughter is just so her!”
